Class Video

Entry 169 for Tuesday September 29, 2020

The core questions:

Credit goes to Ben and readers of his blog for these “Four Questions” and the five stretch questions.

  1. What did you do today? Class prep and reviewing assignments; #TC1028 group 92; #educoffee with Miguel; #TC3045 video watch of “Practical Chaos Engineering breaking things on purpose to make them more resilient against failure” with Adrian Hornsby; meeting with #TC1028 student Mariann.
  2. What did you enjoy? A really nice discussion with my #TC3045 students about this software engineering talk. I try to avoid “watching a video” in class but sometimes I find it useful if there is back channel conversation and points to pause the video for discussions. Other sessions went better in this respect but I think this worked today.
  3. What did you find difficult? One of my students asked (in private DM in Zoom) to leave class for a personal issue (a friend had just died). Of course I said that comes first and to go. I reached out to him over a couple channels and administration reached out to his teachers to be sure to give him support with academic activities. We need to remember that our students (and us teachers) are human and have to deal with human stuff.
  4. What has changed? Today’s group was more active this morning for #TC1028 than yesterday and we had a good full session. A reminder that each of our groups is different, even when it is the same course.
